DEBT RECOVERY LAWYERS IN ACCRA, GHANA

An unpaid invoice, a defaulted loan, or a customer who’s gone quiet doesn’t just hurt on paper. It disrupts payroll, supplier payments, and everything downstream of the money you were counting on. Hansivan Legal Consult’s debt recovery practice helps businesses and individuals across Ghana recover money they’re owed, starting with the fastest option available and escalating only when it’s genuinely necessary.

We work with a range of clients: small business owners chasing unpaid customer invoices, traders and suppliers owed money by business partners, landlords owed rent, and individuals recovering personal loans that were never repaid. Debt recovery in Ghana runs through a fairly predictable sequence: demand, negotiation, court claim, enforcement. Knowing which stage a particular debt actually needs is often the difference between recovering it quickly and spending more chasing it than it’s worth

Demand Letters

A formally drafted legal letter that puts a debtor on notice, often resolving the matter without any further action needed.

Negotiation & Settlement

Where a debtor is willing to engage, we negotiate a repayment plan or settlement that gets you paid faster than litigation would.

Court Claims for Unpaid Debt

Filing and prosecuting recovery claims before the appropriate District, Circuit, or Commercial Court division.

Judgment Enforcement

Garnishment, attachment of property, and other court-approved mechanisms to collect once judgment is obtained, backed by an upfront assessment of what the debtor actually has to collect from.

Business-to-Business Debt Recovery

Recovering unpaid invoices, supplier debts, and breaches of payment terms between companies.

Personal Loan & Rent Recovery

Recovering money owed under personal loan agreements between individuals, and pursuing unpaid rent and damages on behalf of landlords.

What happens after you call us

Instruction and Documentation

You send us the invoices, contracts, loan agreement, or correspondence showing what’s owed, and we assess the strength of the claim.

Demand Letter

We issue a formal demand setting out what’s owed, the deadline for payment, and the consequences of continued non-payment.

Negotiation or Court Filing

If the debtor engages, we negotiate a resolution. If they don’t, we file a claim in the appropriate court and represent you through to judgment.

Enforcement.

Once judgment is secured, we pursue enforcement where the debtor still hasn’t paid, and we keep you informed of what’s realistically recoverable at each stage.

Land law questions we hear most

Is there a minimum amount worth pursuing legally?

It depends on legal costs versus the size of the debt. For smaller amounts, we often suggest negotiation first, since court costs can outweigh a small claim.

In many cases, yes. Ghanaian courts can order the losing party to cover some or all legal costs, though this isn’t guaranteed in every case.

What if the debtor has no assets?

Then a court judgment may not lead to actual payment. We assess this before you commit to legal action, so you’re not spending money chasing something uncollectable.

What is the Commercial Court, and when does my case go there?

The Commercial Court Division of the Accra High Court typically handles higher-value business disputes. Smaller claims are usually filed before the District or Circuit Courts instead.
